Updated: Man arrested in connection with argument in Msida

A foreign man was arrested by police in connection with an argument which occurred on Saturday night in Msida.

Police said in a statement that an argument between a group of people happened in an apartment block in Triq Dijonisju Famucelli in Msida at around 7:40pm.

District police and members of the Rapid Intervention Unit went on site and found blood spatter in the common area of the apartment block and against a door in the fifth storey of the building.

The police said that there was suspicion that the alleged perpetrator had hidden somewhere in the block of apartments, and as a result the Special Intervention Unit (SIU) was called to the scene.

Every room of the apartment was searched, but nobody was found.

However, pointed weapons, which were likely used in the argument, and substances suspected to be drugs were found at the scene.

A bullet was also found lodged in the pavement in front of the apartment block, with investigations establishing that a shot had been fired in the air during the argument.

Police investigations are continuing.

In a second statement, the police said that on Sunday afternoon the victim was found in Birkirkara, with slight wounds to his head.

He is a 31-year-old Libyan man.

The man who was arrested in aged 39, and is from Cuba.

Duty magistrate Elaine Mercieca is leading an inquiry.
