Gieh ir-Repubblika to Caroline Galea

Sunday, 7 November 2021, 09:14 Last update: about 3 years ago

On 28 September afternoon Caroline Galea spotted an injured man who happened to be a migrant worker dumped with pain and crying on a curb in the area of Selmun Mellieha.

The man happens to be a Ghanaian who is Mr Jaiteh Lamin, aged 32. He is married and has 2 kids in Ghana and he is helping them financially from the work he does in Malta.

Jaiteh was working on a building site at Mellieha and fell 2 storeys. Ms Galea spent quite some time with the injured person lying on the pavement until the medical team arrived on the spot and took him to hospital for further treatment.

The President of Malta, the Prime Minister, Opposition Leader, organisations including those who are collecting money for the medical needs of the Ghanaian and all the Maltese population condemned the way this man had been treated.

In view of the courage she showed, Ms Galea should be recommended for the Gieh Ir-Republika award on similar basis to those of Profs. Charmaine Gauci and her team who gave a service to the nation.
