Three athletes from a Maltese OCR team have won honours in the Spartan Winter Championship held in France last weekend.

Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) is a sport based on running on varied terrain and conquering various obstacles (such as rope climb, monkey bars and so on) while on route.

Over the past weekend, winter wonderland Valmorel in France hosted the Spartan Winter Championship.

The event held 2 races; The SUPER on Saturday 29th January which consisted of 11km with 25+ obstacles with elevation gain of 800m , and the SPRINT held on 30th January which consisted of 6km with 20 obstacles and elevation gain of 400m.

Four of the newly formed Wildlings OCR Team athletes attended this international event and conquered while representing Malta.

Wojtek Stellmach won Gold in the 30 to 34 age group in both races;

Gabriella Mangion won Gold and Silver respectively in the 30 to 34 age group;

Daniela Abela won Gold in the 40 to 44 age group in both races;

Fleur Grima Azzopardi finished in 7th and 5th respectively in the 40 to 44 age group.

 Even if the weather conditions, elevation and altitude of this event have nothing to do with what these athletes are used to, since Malta does not offer these kinds of terrain and conditions, they still managed to become overall Winter Champions.

Wildlings OCR Team is a Maltese team whose main target is of building up a fitness community and working towards the growth of obstacle sports in Malta while welcoming people with any fitness level or age.

Sessions are designed in a way that both beginners as well as more experienced will find it suitable. Some are already competing overseas on an international level; others are aiming to compete in local advanced “elite” group or working towards their “first time” competition trial.
