Andrew Agius Delicata and Matthew Gabriele’s Reflex 38 Vivace had its name engraved on the first trophy for the RMYC Racing Season for 2022.  As the four part RMYC Short Coastal Race Series, Vivace emerged victorious having to contend with some very competitive and hard-hitting racing produced by the seasoned fleet.

The final race of the Series took place in blustering conditions, with a constant downpour and a Force 5 South Easterly wind reaching approximately 17knots throughout the short course.  Swells of approximately two metres added to the challenge on the day.  Race Officer Peter Dimech took the fleet to Outer Munxar back to Valletta fairway in the direction of Għallis Cardinal Mark before heading towards the finish line at the Royal Malta Yacht Club.  The two new J99s – Calypso (Thomas Ripard) and Lartista (Anthony Calleja) took the top two places with Vivace coming in third.

With all the four races completed, the final scoring, which was based on corrected time for IRC rated boats based on the best aggregate of all four races. This meant that Vivace and Jarhead Foundation’s JYS Jan, skippered by Matthew Farrugia,  taking the top honours having completed all four races.

“The challenge of racing is not only to win but to have the best teamwork possible and have a great time while doing it! I can safely say that this has been achieved and we look forward the next races on the RMYC Sailing Calendar.” enthused Andrew Agius Delicata, skipper Vivace Sailing Team.

The next event on the Royal Malta Yacht Club Sailing Calendar is the Camilleri Marine Gozo Regatta Weekend which kicks off with a local race on Thursday, a public holiday. This is followed by a schedule of events starting from Friday afternoon where the fleet heads towards Gozo where a full schedule of racing will take place on Saturday and Sunday morning.
