Welsh footballer Gareth Bale has become a shareholder of whisky producer Penderyn Distillery and will assume position of global ambassador for Penderyn Whiskies.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest wingers of his generation and one of the greatest Welsh players of all time, Bale plays for the Welsh national football team. He currently plays for US club Los Angeles FC but built his career with Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspurs.

Penderyn chief executive Stephen Davies said: "It is a combination of two global Welsh brands. Gareth Bale is an ambassador for Wales as a nation all around the world, and Penderyn is renowned for world-class, award-winning single malts and other spirits, and is now distributed in over 50 countries. We are very pleased to create this partnership as we continue to build our brands worldwide."
