Friday 3 February 2023 marks the first centenary since the Mandolinistic Society Melita of Vittoriosa played the Maltese Anthem for the first time in an offical manner.

This occurred during a concert organised at the Manoel Theatre by Għaqda Kittieba tal-Malti. On that day, this orchestra, which was part of the Duke of Edinburgh Philharmonic Society, now known as the St. Lawrence Musical Society of Vittoriosa, had the honour to be invited to play during this memorable concert in which the Maltese National Anthem was officially played for the first time just a few weeks after it was sang for the first time in the same Theatre.

For this reason, to commemorate this historic event, as well as the 140 years since the founding of its band, the St. Lawrence Musical Society of Vittoriosa will be organising a Vocal and Instrumental Programme under the patronage of the President of Malta. George Vella, at the Grand Salon of the Museum of Archaeology, on Friday 3 February 2023 at 7.30pm.
