7 Kirkop tunnel project routes to open in coming days, project completion expected in April

Seven routes from the Hal Kirkop Tunnel project are to open gradually in the coming days, Infrastructure Malta CEO Ivan Falzon said on Friday.

Falzon said that these seven routes amount to around 75% of the whole project.

The Hal kirkop Tunnels project, which was launched last year, will be completed in April, "if everything goes according to plan".

Starting Friday 27 January, people coming from Gudja can go directly to Hal Far instead of taking a longer route, he said.

Additionally, part of the flyover will also be opened Saturday morning.

Falzon added that since the project is currently not 100% complete, the area is still an active construction site and thus drivers are urged not to drive faster than 30 km/h as the flyover "is not for speeding."

Drivers should also pay attention to ever present traffic signs, he said.

The architect engaged for the project, Anton Zammit, said that traffic coming from Kirkop will be kept on two lanes.

"The change is gradual", he said.

Additionally he said that part of Triq il Karwija will eventually be closed on Tuesday, in order for project works to continue.
