A man has died after he was hit by a car in Mdina, the police said.

The accident took place in Belt Valletta Road at 12.30am Sunday.

(The area in question, to many is known as the hill leading up towards Rabat, Saqqajja)

The man, aged 54 of Tarxien, was hit by a Peugeot 208 drive by a 20-year-old man of Qrendi.

The man, later named as Twanny Marmara, was certified dead on site.

Magsitrate Rachel Montebello is leading an inquiry.

This is the fourth traffic fatality of the year.
