Tributes pour in all over social media following the death of two young men both in their 20s.

Kurt Polidano, a 24-year-old police constable and Mqabba FC goalkeeper died on Monday, whilst Josef Grech, a 27-year-old artist died on Saturday. The Times of Malta reported that the police have excluded foul play.

On a Facebook post, Mqabba FC wrote: “Kurt - an exemplary young man, hardworking and energetic. We remember you coming to our club’s Nursery for the first time, where together with other children you worked hard to learn and succeed. We had spoken about you becoming a coach in our nursery, and the good you have done with the children is indescribable. In recent years, you were also part of the senior team that managed to save its place in the Challenge League.”

In another post, his mother wrote: “The celebratory mass and last farewell for our son Kurt will be held on Wednesday 5th July at 9.00am at Qrendi Parish Church. We ask for prayers in these difficult moments. Thanks to all who showed solidarity with us today.”

In Grech’s case, he used to be part of the theatre group Dwal Godda. On Facebook, the group said that there were few men like him.

“We worked together, rejoiced and suffered together More than that, we cherish the silence because words can be empty. But we will certainly cherish the times we spent together because they were beneficial for all of us.”

His funeral will take place on Wednesday, July 5 at 9am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church, Burmarrad.

This news follows the shocking death of artist and musician Andrew Schembri who died on Thursday evening at the age of 29, where the police also excluded foul play. Schembri was the guitarist for the widely-known local band Brikkuni, and was also known for his elaborate light installations as part of the artistic duo, Late Interactive.
