A recreational space for children in Xgħajra was recently inaugurated by the Minister of Public Works and Planning Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli, and the Mayor of Xgħajra, Neil Attard, following its renovation works.

While giving comments on the recreational space for children, Minister Azzopardi explained that the works on and around this playground were made possible thanks to the Planning Authority after they contributed over €150,000 from the Development Planning Fund to help fund this project.

The minister said that projects such as this are evidence of how the government carefully uses its resources to aid local councils in rejuvenating the open areas found at the heart of local communities.

"We believe in the importance of open spaces within our localities, especially to provide nice and safe areas for our children", Minister Azzopardi said during the project's inauguration.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli praised the Xgħajra Local Council for their commitment towards this project so that Xgħajra residents may have more open recreational spaces within their locality. She also mentioned the government's trust in local councils.

The Mayor of Xgħajra, Neil Attard, showed his appreciation towards the Planning Authority for supplying the funds required to enhance the playground. The mayor also thanked all the workers and volunteers involved throughout this project.

Planning Authority CEO Oliver Magro was also present for this brief ceremony.
