Gzira United achieved a prestigious victory against Dudelange at the Centenary Stadium yesterday, in the first leg of the Second Qualifying Round of the Europa Conference League.
After the first half ended in a goalless draw, the Maroons opened the scoring in the 54th minute from an impressive run by Macula who, as soon as he reached the edge of the box, attempted a shot that beat Desprez.
The team from Luxembourg took a blow six minutes later as Roemer received a second yellow card and left his team with ten men.
Gzira took advantage of the extra man and took control of the match. On 79 minutes from a cross by Espindola, captain Zack Scerri hit a magnificent firsttimer which was impossible for the goalkeeper to stop.
Gzira controlled the rest of the game and defended well their double advantage until the endhoping to get a positive result in Luxembourg next week and make it to the third round.
