A 70-year-old woman from Birkirkara has lost her life after finding herself in difficulty while she was swimming in the sea in St Paul’s Bay.

A police spokesperson told The Malta Independent that at around 10am on Monday, a report came in that a female person needed assistance near Wignacourt Towers in St Paul’s Bay.

She was brought out of the water and a medical team was dispatched, but she was unfortunately certified dead on site.

Police were on site carrying out investigations.

Duty magistrate Rachel Montebello is leading an inquiry.
