The service of a motorised bed will begin to be offered for elderly with physical difficulties and mobility problems, announced Minister for Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela on Thursday. The Ministry said that this is an initiative which will improve elderly people’s quality of life.

The Minister said that the Active Ageing and Community Care will be identifying the elderly who are eligible for this service and will also cover the costs related to the transportation of the motorised bed. AACC will also be subsidising the €118 monthly bedroom rent. He said that seniors who have a valid pink card will have their rent costs paid for entirely by AACC. Seniors who do not have a pink card will be subsidised and be required to pay  €29.50 monthly for the service.

He said that the motorised bed provides a number of benefits for the elderly as well as the individuals who handle their care. Abela concluded by saying that the Ministry is committed to the continued launching of such initiatives aiming to improve elderly people’s quality of life.
