The latest Malta Independent political survey certainly gives pause for reflection.
It also gave rise to a number of questions. Would a 0.4% lead for the PN result in an overall majority of around 1,500 votes at a general election? Is Bobby really more trustworthy than Bernie? Will the next election truly be decided by a record number of non voters?
Of course all of these questions are academic, since the next general election is not due for another three years. So... if a week is considered a long time in politics, what does three years mean? A whole millennium? Bobby could well have been subsumed by his volume of spouted "terminological inexactitudes". Roberta Metsola had suddenly and inexplicably decided to exchange life at the top of the EU Commission for the rough and tumble of Malta's parish pump politics, a completely new political party could sweep the board at the General Election (Ha! dream on) or we could all be toiling under the yoke of Vladimir Putin and his merry men.
I was also intrigued to see that Bobby, whose PM tenure has so far been - well not exactly covered in the laurels of success - is seen as more trustworthy - nearly 9% more trustworthy than poor Bernie. Now just how they came to this last conclusion is not exactly clear since I cannot recall any occasion where any trust has been placed in Bernie... yet. Also, to see Bobby as trustworthy is akin to seeing Mike Tyson as a sensitive lover. Oh puleeze!
What is clear is that, at long last, the tide seems to be turning against this current lot of thieves and charlatans, in favour of... well who knows? What replaces them could be a hell of a lot worse, but I doubt that somehow. As things stand currently - and just for the record - there is no way that I, or any of my extended family, would ever cast a vote in favour of this current Labour Party - and we are by no means typical PN voters - quite the opposite! Neither have we had our monthly pay packets boosted with a €450 handout from Social Services... yet. That could of course change everything as far as I was concerned (just kidding!).
Quite frankly, after the mega soiled tenure of the most corrupt human being on the planet, the current situation of life under a bumbling serial liar is akin to life under Donald Trump. Not good, not good at all. And the sooner it is brought to an inglorious close the better for everyone.
As an addendum to the above I see that of all the current cabinet members the only one to gain any sort of credit is the minister of health and deputy PM, Chris Fearne. Well good for him, I mean, there had to be at least one good apple in the current barrel of crooks and incompetents. At the bottom of the list comes a batch of the usual suspects including Owen Bonnici, Clint Camilleri, Byron Camilleri and Clifton Grima. No surprises there then.

Scanning the Serie A results at the weekend I see my lot (Juventus for the uninitiated) suffered a thumping by, of all people, Sassuolo (4 - 2). Just what is going on at Italy's once omnipotent football club? How much longer has Pep got on his Man City contract? Just asking?
