Government cannot hide its own failures by attacking businesses, says PN

The Labour Party has run out of ideas and has therefore resorted to blaming Maltese businesses and importers for its shortcomings, Nationalist Party MPs Mark Anthony Sammut and Albert Buttigieg said during a conference on Friday.

Sammut said that those close to Prime Minister Robert Abela have lost confidence in their own Government’s ability to address the issue presented by the rising cost of living.

He continued that Abela is partaking in a lost fight against the cost of living and said that the actions being taken towards Maltese businesses are an “attack” and an “insult”. Anthony Sammut also recalled a situation in which he said that PL candidate Clint Azzopardi Flores also attacked Maltese businessmen and shop owners.

Sammut said that Malta deserves leadership capable of offering a better life in our country.

He added that it has an economic plan which includes the creation of a national fund intended to support the import and export industry. It concluded that this economic plan would lead to a better life in Malta.

Buttigieg referred to PL MEP Alex Agius Saliba’s address to the European Commission as an attack on Maltese businessmen and said that it is indicative of a lack of seriousness amongst the PL delegation.

Buttigieg said that the delegation is relying on the European Commission to do work that no one from the Government “seems to have realised is their responsibility in the first place”. He said that Abela’s Government is “showing how disconnected it is from reality” by choosing to blame the high prices and cost of living on Maltese importers and businesses.
