Sunday, 15 October 2023, 08:15 Last update: about 8 months ago

The elegance, versatility and enduring appeal of ceramics captivates both artists and enthusiasts alike. Clay and fire are both timeless and this is the essence of Ignis where clay and fire at the hands of the artists create art which in itself is also timeless.

The exhibition Ignis, which is open until 27 October at Art by the Seaside Gallery in Senglea, is a joint exibition between budding artists Deborah Marmara' and Anna Miggiani which will be inagurated by Lawrence Pavia, a renowned local artist.

Ceramic artistry is a medium that marries form and structure and this exhibition will serve as a testament to its remarkable diversity. Stepping into the world of these artists, will transport you into a realm where clay is transformed into an array of sculptures and wall-hanging works which can showcase the boundless creativity of the artists. The artwork on display also portrays a variety of firing methods and a variety of glazing methods.

Ignis features two ceramic artists who are aimed at exploring and defying this age-old art, bringing together a unique blend of perspectives and styles. Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the artists themselves, gaining insights into their creative process and inspirations and also be introduced to both artists' kaleidoscope world. Marmara' and Miggiani, though different, show a blend tied by the use of clay and fire while offering a myriad of works glazed and fired in raku and stoneware. Marmara' has exhibited her work in various collective ceramic exhibitions while Miggiani is more known as a painter. For both artists this is the first exhibition of this scale. One of the highlights of this exhibition is the diverse range of themes explored by the artists. You'll witness pieces that draw from nature's beauty, pay homage to traditions and challenge conventional notions of shape and form. The works range from the serene simplicity of smooth surfaces to the roughness of tactile ones, from calm linear work to the intricate complexity of multi-part pieces therefore allowing the viewer endless possibilities to enjoy.

Ignis is an opportunity to celebrate the timeless artistry of ceramics, connect with artists and deepen the perspective regarding this medium. Whether you're an art connoisseur, a budding artist or simply curious about the world of ceramics, this joint exhibition promises to be an enriching and inspiring experience.
