Joining forces for more vocations

Friday, 20 October 2023, 11:59 Last update: about 8 months ago

Several priests, consecrated persons and lay people recently gathered for the first in a series of meetings aimed at embarking on a journey. This journey will help those involved in the vocations ministry to reflect more deeply on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in fostering more vocations.

During the meeting, researcher Dr Luke Buhagiar emphasised the challenge of reaching out to today's youth in matters of faith. He presented studies on the beliefs of Maltese youth, both within the Church and in secular contexts. Ministering to younger generations may prove slightly more challenging today, especially when seeking an effective way to communicate the Gospel message. This is primarily due to the blurred understanding of faith among today's youth and what it means for them to live as Catholics in the present day.

Hence, within the Church in Malta, efforts are currently underway to gradually strengthen the newly established network between different vocation promoters working within the local Church. This includes cultivating an atmosphere of ongoing discernment and formation among vocation promoters themselves, as well as in their respective congregations and institutions.

All of this will contribute to fostering a much-needed fraternal spirit throughout all levels of the Church. This unity will bear witness and hopefully attract the young to consider dedicating their lives to God and to others!
