Marzia Marimar Calleja Maatouk has joined her husband, Jomic Calleja Maatouk, on Europol's list of Europe's most wanted fugitives.

Jomic Calleja Maatouk, a 38-year-old man found guilty of attempting to import explosives over the dark web, is wanted for failing to appear in court and for failing to abide by bail conditions. He was sentenced to a five-year prison sentence in July. Maltese law allows for prison sentences given by magistrates to be postponed if an appeal is filed, pending that decision. He did not sign the bail book in August while out on bail after he filed an appeal.

"In June 2019 the Malta Police Force were informed by security services that an unknown person was attempting to buy C4 as well as Polonium 210, ricin and the synthetic opioid Fentanyl on the dark web. Investigators intercepted internet communications between a person selling the material and a potential buyer, which was identified as being Jomic Calleja Maatouk. Mr. Calleja Maatouk was arraigned in court in March 2020 and was subsequently found guilty and given a five year effective imprisonment sentence and made to forfeit €51,000 in bail bonds. Jomic Calleja Maatouk appealed this judgement and has since not abided by the bail conditions he was to adhere to," Europol's most wanted list had read when he was added to it in August.

Police believe that both Jomic Calleja Maatouk and his partner Marzia, had left Malta by private boat to evade justice, it was reported at the time.

Now Marzia Marimar Calleja Maatouk has also been placed on the most wanted list.

"In August 2019, Marzia Marimar Calleja Maatouk was stopped by the police and was found to be in possession of narcotics in circumstances denoting that they were not for her personal use. She was subsequently charged in September 2019 with possession with intent to supply. Marzia Marimar Maatouk Calleja, was sentenced in July 2023 to 15 months imprisonment and to pay €3,500.00 in court fees and fine. This sentence was appealed, however Calleja Maatouk absconded from the Maltese islands. According to latest intelligence Marzia Marimar is accompanied by her husband Jomic Calleja Maatouk, who is also wanted on a different case," the list reads.
