Floriana triumphed in the Old Firm derby when they beat rivals Sliema Wanderers by two second half goals scored by Kemar Reid and Owen Spiteri.

This win left the Greens unbeaten after eight matches played and at the top of the standings. For Sliema this was the third seasonal defeat and thus remain seven points adrift of their opponents on thirteen points.

Sliema started brightly when a Geoffrey Acheampong shot from the distance went wide. The Greens responded immediately but Magri Overend's shot from inside the area sailed over the bar.

Good work by Acheampong with the ball directed towards striker Plut but he couldn't make it on time. And a minute later Floriana were awarded a penalty. Denis Kouosa tripped Matheus Sousa in the area but from the resultant kick the ball hit the upright and finally the ball was cleared to safety.

On the stroke of half time an Acheampong shot went wide.

On resumption a Samuel Gomes first-timer from outside the area was pushed away by Kitanov.

And nineteen minutes from the end Floriana broke the deadlock. It was Kemar Reid who squared the ball with Garcia and on receiving back slotted the ball past Al Tumi.

Six minutes later the Greens put the issue beyond doubt when off an Arias corner from the right side Owen Spiteri perfectly headed past the Wanderers goalkeeper.
