We should not stain politics with bad behaviour – PN leader in Christmas message

Politics is a noble weapon which should not be stained by bad behaviour, Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech said in his Christmas message.

People should go into politics to make life better for others, he said.

The positive elements that characterise this special season should be retained throughout the whole of the year, he said.

Grech said that while Christmastime is a period of socialising and getting together, we cannot forget all that is happening around us. “The environment we are living in is not one of celebration,” he said.

He said we should show solidarity with others, particular those who are passing through a difficult time.

He said Jesus Christ came to this world not to remain silent, but to speak up where there is something wrong. Jesus Christ taught us that there cannot be peace without justice.

Each one of us has the duty to fight for what is right, even when this means going against the current.

During the past year, the Nationalist Party had achieved several victories, including in the fight for the health sector, Grech said, without making any reference to the court decisions to annul the hospitals’ deal the government had reached in 2015.

He said that the PN always worked hard for the right to life, from beginning to end, as he reminded viewers of the battle which the party embarked upon to have a public inquiry into the death of Jean Paul Sofia, who was killed when a building under construction crumbled in Kordin.

He said that at this time of the year one cannot forget that in areas such as the Middle East and Ukraine, people are suffering. These are realities that the world has to face, he said.
