Two men were arrested on Friday in separate police operations in connection with importation, trafficking and cultivation of drugs, the police said Saturday.

A Romanian man, aged 37, was arrested on his arrival by catamaran from Sicily and the police found €2 million worth of cocaine, destined for the local market.

The 15 kilos of the drug were found in false compartments in a Volkswagen Touareg, the police said.

In a second operation, a 36-year-old man from Serbia, who lives in Mellieha, was arrested after it was found that a place of residence had been converted into one where cannabis was being cultivated.

The police said that some 150 cannabis plants, that would yield around 80 kilos of the drug, were found in the residence.

Magisterial inquiries are being led by Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech and Magistrate Momnica Vella.
