Medical supplies, equipment towards Ukraine cost €79,982 in May 2022

Malta has provided medical supplies and equipment to Ukrainian people totalling €79,982 in May of 2022. In 2024, Malta also provided 25 mine detectors to Ukrainian people.

PN MP Darren Carabott made a parliamentary question asking Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri to provide information about the type of resources and/or objects provided as assistance to the Ukrainian Forces during the years 2022 and 2023, along with the quantities.

Camilleri said that any assistance provided to the Ukrainian people was in the form of humanitarian aid. In 2022, 34 tonnes of medicinal supplies were provided and in 2023, 19 generators and 45 tonnes of medical items (masks, gloves, swabs, etc.) were provided.

In 2024, 25 mine detectors were provided. These were delivered to the Ukrainians through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which aims to strengthen cooperation between EU countries and participating states on civil protection to enhance disaster prevention, preparedness, and response.

He said that in May of 2022, the Defense Matters Directorate coordinated to provide medical supplies and equipment totalling €79,982.
