'The decision concerning Joseph Muscat rests with the Labour Party and its leadership', Joseph Muscat supporter Emanuel Cuschieri said Michelle Muscat announced.

In a Facebook post, Cuschieri said that "Joseph Muscat said yes. Michelle Muscat this morning (said) 'Joseph and I remained loving and will continue to love the Labour Party. We will always be there for the Labour Party if it calls us. They are asking me what will Joseph do, Joseph as always works for the good of the Labour Party and the country. Now the issue concerning Joseph is a decision of the Labour Party and those who lead it."

Curschieri hinted that this was said by Michelle Muscat during a political activity by Claudette Abela Baldacchino.

The speculation that Joseph Muscat, who resigned as Prime Minister in January 2020 following a political crisis triggered by the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and subsequent arrests has been rife. Muscat recently said he was considering a return to politics, showing interest in a possible candidacy for the European Parliament elections in comments he gave to MaltaToday, stopping short of giving a definite answer. He was an MEP between 2004 and 2008 before he resigned the post to take on the Labour Party leadership.
