The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra's sixth concert in the Chamber series will take place today at 11am at the Robert Samut Hall in Floriana.

Natascha Chircop and Marco Rivoltini feature in this concert in which we explore colourful rhythmic structures and textures, through different dance forms over the span of a century. The programme varies from Dvorak's Slavonic Dances in Bohemian traditional dance forms to Shawn's Dance Portraits, which highlight the detailed intensity of notes and dancing buoyancy of rhythms, integrating dissonant harmonies and romantic pianism. Included also are the Gazebo Dances by Corigliano, a reminiscence of the little bands playing in the village squares of New England, together with Hindemith's 8 Waltzes, an early intimate work having sinuous rhythms, which starkly contrasts with Ravel's fully-fledged La Valse with all its virtuosity and sensual richness.
