The PN is asking what the Police are going to do about leaked information about the social benefits racket, after a minister got to know he was named during an interrogation of the former driver of parliamentary secretary Andy Ellul.

Roger Agius, who was also one of Ellul’s canvassers, has called for a magisterial inquiry to investigate the social benefits fraud racket, offering to blow the lid on organised criminal activity he claims to have participated in, if granted whistleblower status.

This emerged from a judicial protest filed by Roger Agius against the Prime Minister, the Whistleblower Officer at the Office of the Prime Minister, the State Advocate, the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Police on Thursday.

In the same judicial protest, Agius also says that when the following day he was interrogated, the same minister got to know he was mentioned. The PN is questioning how this happened and wants the police to take immediate action.

PN MP Mark Anthony Sammut said that from this evidence it is clear, that it is not only Castille personnel who is responsible for this benefits scheme racket but that there is also government officials involved.

Referring to the whistle blower Act, Sammut said that since it has been enacted as law by the same government it has been used only once. This case revolved around former PN MP Giovanna Debono’s husband Anthony Debono, where he was later cleared of all charges. Sammut said that in this case the court had also admonished the police for arraigning Debono to court as it said that the law was used wrongly.
