Identità notices only in English, ignoring Maltese language

Tuesday, 26 March 2024, 14:23 Last update: about 2 months ago

The agency which was known as Identity Malta had its name changed to Identità, a word in Maltese meaning identity, to give it a more Maltese touch, and yet placards and signs at the agency’s offices remain in English, a Facebook page promoting the Maltese language says.

Il-Malti Madwarna, in a Facebook post, noted the rebranding took place last September, but the administrators wondered whether anyone thought of using the Maltese language – together with English – in its notices.

While understanding that many people who visit the agency are foreigners, Maltese people also make use of the agency’s services, and the Maltese language should not be discarded.

The only items that are in Maltese are the agency’s name, the notice asking users to say how much they were satisfied with the services offered, and the commemorative plaque unveiled by the minister, the Facebook page noted.
