More Mosta trees vandalized: Eucalyptus trees found in same state as nearby Ficus trees

Thursday, 4 April 2024, 17:59 Last update: about 25 days ago

The Mosta Local Council has announced that just eight days after the Ficus trees in the locality's square were found vandalized, with holes in their trunks and roots and an "unknown liquid" poured into them, Eucalyptus trees in Ġnien Reġġie Cilia have been found vandalized in the same manner.

It was announced through the local council's Facebook page that Mosta's Mayor, Perit Chris Grech, has already informed the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) as well as the police about this. Both ERA and the Police are already working on the case.

Cameras in the area are being looked into.

"Some of these Eucalyptus trees already look dead and dry," the Mosta Local Council stated.

The local council has strongly deplored and condemned these "shameful" acts of vandalism.

"We do not rule out that these vandal acts were done to obscure the work of the local council or its councillors," the Mosta Local Council wrote.

Regarding the Ficus trees less than 200 metres away from Ġnien Reġġie Cilia, the local council stated that since the incident was publicized, the ERA have added cameras in the square to monitor the trees and have also begun treatment interventions in the hopes of saving the previously pruned trees.
