Police Commissioner, Attorney General must take action against Muscat and Schembri - PN MP

Thursday, 11 April 2024, 17:06 Last update: about 18 days ago

The Attorney General and Police Commissioner cannot continue abdicating from their responsibilities and must take action against former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and his former Chief of Staff Keith Schembri, a statement by PN MP Karol Aquilina read.

The ruling by Judge Lawrence Mintoff clearly shows, on paper, that Keith Schembri's behaviour during the police investigation into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia was an abuse of his position, the PN MP said. He said that Schembri worked against the interests of the country and the security of the people.

For this reason, Aquilina called on Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa and Attorney General Victoria Buttigieg to wake up "and do what they should have done: take action against Joseph Muscat and Keith Schembri as soon as possible."

As then-prime minister Joseph Muscat's Chief of Staff, Keith Schembri was subject to the Act on Official Secrecy (Chap. 50 of the Laws of Malta) by which any divulging of information, documentation or otherwise involving security carries the penalty of prison time, said Aquilina.

Aquilina and the PN reminded that Keith Schembri had taken the oath as a witness when he said that all he had done was with Joseph Muscat's blessing.
