Two operators in the Ħal Far industrial zone will be relocated as the area they currently occupy is part of the car racing track project.

Education Minister Clifton Grima and Economy Minister Silvio Schembri visited the site on Thursday, where the two operators, Attrans and White Brothers, will be relocated, and INDIS is tidying up the area.

This site, covering about 27,000 square metres, is crucial for both companies, both of which operate in the transport and logistics sector, making it essential for them to remain in the same area, a government statement read.

The relocation process will ensure a smooth transition for both operators.

This initiative will create more space for the development of the Motorsport Complex, which will be the premier facility of its kind in the Mediterranean, it said.

Grima explained the collaboration with various entities, saying that the work on the car racing track is progressing rapidly, and that it is crucial to work with other entities that have significant contributions to make.

“Among these are individuals who own land that needs to be passed on to SportMalta for development as part of the track circuit. This land is therefore an important part of what will be the Sports Complex for those who have this sport at heart in our country,” Grima said.

Schembri thanked INDIS for leading this relocation, and said that this is a project that underscores the importance of the car racing track project, but also the private operators.

“With INDIS’ work, we are getting closer to the dream of the track, and at the same time, the operators who will be relocated will do this with the least possible inconvenience so that their operations can continue smoothly throughout the transition,” Schembri said.

The cleaning process involved about 1,500 truckloads of debris, costing around €1.5 million.

Malta Motorsport Federation President Duncan Micallef said that as a federation, it is responsible for every car enthusiast in Malta, and it has been working on this project in Ħal Far for the last three years.

“Today, we are seeing the relocation that is part of the project, where entities will be allocated. This means that the government is giving full support to this project, which we are working hand in hand on,” Micallef said.

He said that this relocation is not the first step, as much work has already been done, and it will continue as time goes on.

This project complements another project focusing on the Drag Racing track, with several changes to the facilities and the track itself.

The first phase of the Motorsport track will see infrastructure improvements on the existing Drag Racing track, allowing it to be certified by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and officially enter the FIA calendar.

The project will make it possible for the track to host international Drag Racing activities, the statement read.
