The Brewhouse in Mrieħel by Simonds Farsons Cisk plc with lead architects Ritchie*Studio is the winner of the Rehabilitation & Conservation Award at the Malta Architecture and Spatial Planning (MASP) Awards organised by the Planning Authority last week.

The jury noted that the regeneration of the historic, Grade II Farsons Brewery is a landmark project that saw one of the country's finest, 20th century industrial buildings transformed into an outstanding, mixed-use destination. Despite the complexity of this undertaking, the Brewhouse project resulted in the excellent resolution to successfully preserve and adapt both the internal and external fabric of the iconic building, for a new lease of life. A truly remarkable example of sensitive adaptive re-use of spaces for contemporary times, tied in with authentic appreciation of industrial architectural heritage.

Mr Michael Farrugia, Deputy Chief Executive (Beverage Business) at Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, said in his acceptance speech, "This was a very special project for us at Farsons. We're normally used to building breweries not regenerating old ones. We're very proud of the transformation that's happened and we hope it will inspire, raise the bar and give more awareness to the industrial heritage that our country has a lot to be proud of."
