Two 18-year-old men were arrested shortly after they allegedly committed a burglary from a residence in Naxxar, the police said Tuesday.

The two were found in possession of items belonging to the owners of the same residence, a police statement read.

At around 2:30am on Tuesday, the police were informed that in Triq il-Port Ruman, St Paul’s Bay, there were two suspicious individuals in possession of a large sharp weapon.

Police immediately went to the scene and noticed two individuals matching the given description.

They were stopped, and upon searching them, police found a hatchet, a machete, and a quantity of jewellery in their possession. They were arrested on the spot and taken to the station for further investigation.

During the investigation, the police discovered that the jewellery found had allegedly been stolen from a residence in Triq Ta' l-Imdawra, Naxxar, just a short time before.

The investigation also revealed that a few days earlier, a vehicle was stolen from the same property and damage was done to several vehicles in the same area, allegedly by the same individuals who were arrested.

The two individuals, an Englishman residing in St Paul’s Bay and a Maltese resident of Mosta, will be appearing in court in the coming days. Police investigations are ongoing.
