A man has died and a woman was injured after both were hit by an ambulance in the limits of Mater Dei Hospital, the police said Saturday.

The accident took place at around 5pm.

The victim, a man aged 48 from Cospicua, and the woman, a 54-year-old Romanian woman who resides in St Paul’s Bay, were hit by the ambulance, a Fiat Ducato driven by a 36-year-old man of Zejtun, the police said.

The man, a nursing aide named Joseph Grech, was certified dead on site.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment. Her condition is as yet unknown.

Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici is leading an inquiry.
