Former Minister Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri - who was the former Prime Minister's chief of staff, are set to face charges over plans to receive payments from 17 Black, the Times of Malta reports.

17 Black is an offshore company owned by Yorgen Fenech.

The Times reported that a criminal inquiry concluded that Mizzi and Schembri, as well as Fenech, should face charges. The Magisterial inquiry was presented to the Attorney General last week, it reports. The nature of the charges are not yet known.

The newspaper also quoted sources as saying that Former Electrogas director Paul Apap Bologna and Mario Pullicino, who acted as a local agent for the floating tanker in Delimara, are also set to face charges.

Leaked emails that had emerged years ago had shown that 17 Black was to become one of the main sources of funds for the Panama companies that were owned by Schembri and Mizzi.

The magisterial inquiry into 17 Black and the Panama Papers was launched back in 2018.

This will be the second set of charges that Mizzi and Schembri would face together in under a year, with the first set of charges dealing with the hospitals deal.
