In the face of digital and environmental transitions with strategic aims as part of Vision Malta 2050, such changes will be enacted through the strengthening of policy incentives Prime Minister Robert Abela said during a visit to the Mosta Technopark on Monday.
These policy incentives would be a means of pushing towards innovation and growth of quality among small and medium enterprises, which are the "backbone of the Maltese economy", he said.
The Prime Minister also spoke of the efforts of companies to maintain a high level of innovation and investment in research, as well as work to have quality jobs and exports of Maltese products and services around the world.
"As we celebrate the worker this week, we recall the Government's commitment to continue to pursue policies in favour of employment and quality economic growth. This is in addition to working towards a fairer society that gives everyone the chance to succeed", Abela said.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Economy Minister Silvio Schembri and INDIS Malta CEO Jean Pierre Attard. The businesses they visited at the technopark included Memo International, Microtek Medical Malta, MostaTech, and Stargate Studios.
The Office of the Prime Minister stated that Memo International is a company specialising in electronic security systems for the jewellery industry, Microtek Medical Malta is an internationally recognised company in the manufacturing of medical protects, MostaTech is a local company that manufactures precision sensors for the aerospace sector, and StarGate Studios is a studio known for its work on productions such as The Walking Dead and Black Mirror.
The OPM said Prime Minister Abela spoke of the government's continued support for private enterprise through measures such as SME aid schemes and investments in industrial infrastructure, as well as how workers are benefiting from "the largest tax reduction in history".
Abela also visited the INDIS Malta offices, and spoke of the importance of INDIS Malta in helping enterprises grow and translate trust in Malta into economic wealth which benefits Maltese and Gozitan families.
Economy Minister Silvio Schembri said that the four companies that the Prime Minister visited are evidence of a diversified and innovative economy. He remarked that although Malta is a small country without natural resources, it has a great resource in its human resources, the workers. "We saw workers at various levels working on innovative products. We believe in the great potential that our country has, we worked on a vision that will lead our country for the next 25 years. A vision based on the basic principle of having a healthy quality of life," he concluded.
