Works on the Msida Creek Project have entered a significant new phase, with efforts now focused on preparing key public spaces for community use ahead of the upcoming parish feast celebrations, the Ministry for Infrastructure said in a statement.

During a site visit on Thursday, Minister for Infrastructure Jonathan Attard, accompanied by Infrastructure Malta CEO Steve Ellul, project managers and architects, reviewed progress across several sections of the extensive regeneration project.

The ministry said in a statement that substantial advancements had been made within the main square area, around the parish church and its surroundings, as well as in the vicinity of the local Band Club. Current works include paving, landscaping and the installation of infrastructure aimed at improving accessibility for residents and visitors.

"The project is steadily taking shape, and residents are already starting to benefit from the investment being made in this area," Attard said. He noted that the government's immediate priority is to ensure that the regenerated square and waterfront areas are ready to host activities linked to the parish feast.

The ministry said that significant progress has also been recorded along the waterfront promenade, where much of the paving work has already been completed. Authorities expect both the new square and large sections of the promenade to become accessible to the public in the coming weeks.

Despite the focus on opening key areas for public use, major infrastructure works continue elsewhere within the project. These include the installation of underground utility services, construction of a canal that will serve as a central feature of the development, and works related to the underground car park.

Attard said the project would ultimately transform the area into a modern and accessible waterfront destination.

"Once completed, this project will provide the community with a modern, accessible and attractive waterfront that will be enjoyed by present and future generations alike," he said.

Ellul described the pace of progress as rapid, particularly in pedestrian zones and public open spaces.

"Works will continue throughout the summer on what will be one of the project's most crucial elements, the canal, which will form a central feature of this development," Ellul said.

The Msida Creek Project is among the country's largest urban regeneration initiatives. It aims to improve connectivity, enhance accessibility and create high-quality public spaces for residents and visitors.

The government and Infrastructure Malta said they remain committed to delivering the project efficiently and responsibly, with the goal of providing a more sustainable and attractive environment for the Msida community and the wider public.
