Police Raid nets cannabis find and hunting weapons

Malta Independent Saturday, 3 April 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Gozo police were on patrol looking for illegal hunting on the outskirts of Zebbug on Wednesday 31 March. They stopped at Ta’ Kuljat hill and saw that some young men were firing at birds. Hunting is not allowed during the afternoon on public holidays and they proceeded to question the men.

However, the men piled into separate vehicles and tried to make a getaway. The police managed to trace the men, aged between 21 and 22, to a flat in Marsalforn. The two vehicles used in the escape were subsequently searched and police found weapons and ammunition. They also searched the flat and found some cannabis joints and other items related to hunting. The men are expected to appear in the Gozo courts in the next few days.
