MLP Defends Air Malta staff

Malta Independent Wednesday, 7 April 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

In a statement signed by Karmenu Vella and Joe Cuschieri, Opposition spokesmen on tourism and Air Malta respectively, the MLP said the reports were intended to create confusion among Air Malta employees and to try to imply that the employees, and not the company, were to blame for the current situation in the national airline.

While showing solidarity with the employees, the MLP called for unity between all the workers and their unions.

The party urged the workers to fight for their rights and follow the directives given by their unions.

The two spokesmen also condemned the behaviour of the Nationalist government which was attacking Air Malta employees when they had no involvement in the wrong decisions taken by the company.

They pointed out that the problems being faced by Air Malta are a result of mistakes made in the past by the Nationalist government and people it trusted during the 1990s.

The way decisions are being taken today will complicate matters even further, the MLP said.
