A GWU delegation, which included secretary general Tony Zarb and deputy secretary general Emanuel Micallef, met with Mr Gioia yesterday.

This was one of a series of meetings the union has set up with foreign ambassadors in Malta in an effort to attract more foreign investment to Malta and therefore create more jobs for Maltese workers.

The president and secretary of the Metal and Construction Sector were also present at the meeting.

Apart from explaining the current situation at the Maltese dockyards, they also discussed how the American embassy can help by bringing more vessels requiring maintenance work to Malta’s dockyards.
