Malta Independent Wednesday, 14 April 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

Elections for the localities of Attard, Birzebbuga, Floriana, Gharghur, Gzira, Hamrun, Kercem, Luqa, Marsaxlokk, Mosta, Munxar, Paola, Qala, Qormi, Safi, San Lawrenz, Santa Lucija, Siggiewi, Swieqi, Vittoriosa, Xaghra and Zebbug (Gozo), and for the European Parliament, will be held concurrently on Saturday 12 June 2004.

Voters who are registered in localities where local council elections are being held cannot apply to serve as assistant electoral commissioners in that locality. They may, however, apply to serve during the counting of votes for any other of the above-mentioned localities and for the counting of votes in the election for members of the European Parliament.

It should be noted that the counting process for members of the European Parliament is expected to commence after the counting for local council elections has been fully concluded, ie towards the night of Sunday 13 June, and may continue until Wednesday 16 June.

Applicants for counting duties should therefore, if eventually selected, be free to attend their assigned shift without problems of employment or conditions of any other nature.

Applications will be received by the Electoral Commission at its office – Evans Building, St Elmo Square, Valletta, and for those residing in Gozo at the Identity Cards office – 7A Republic Street, Rabat, Gozo, from tomorrow, 15 April up to Tuesday 20 April, from 2pm to 7pm except on Sunday 18 April. On Saturday 17 April applications will be received from 8am to 1pm.

Application forms – the only ones admissible – can be obtained from the Electoral Office on the above-mentioned dates and times.
