Speaking during the annual general meeting for producers of traditional Maltese cheeselets, gbejniet, Dr Agius said that if the producers have high quality products, according to criteria established by the Malta Standards Authority, there is a greater chance of gbejiniet being granted regional protection by the European Union.
Dr Agius also appealed to the producers to give all the information they have when requested to do so, because it is only with this information that the ministry and the Agriculture Department can apply for EU assistance.
Regarding the registration of animals, Dr Agius said that in a period of two months, 611 animal breeders in Malta and 360 in Gozo had registered their animals.
