The third stamp exhibition, entitled Maltese History on Stamp, was opened yesterday at the Archaeological Museum in Valletta. It consists of a display of Emvin Cremona’s original stamp designs.
Speaking at the opening, Mr Galea explained that these designs can be considered a documentation of Malta’s political history since the scenes depicted include Independence, Freedom Day and the anniversary of the awarding of the George Cross.
These deigns are being exhibited for the first time and Minister Galea hopes that the venture, organised by Heritage Malta in collaboration with Maltapost, will pave the way for long term synergy between the two organisations.
The fact that entrance to the exhibition is free of charge highlights the dedication of Heritage Malta and Maltapost to promote national culture, said the minister.
Although the use of stamps is becoming less frequent in contemporary society, they always reflect important events and aspects of the Maltese culture, Mr Galea concluded.
The exhibits are Mr Cremona’s original drawings which were then used for stamp designs. Several are painted in gouache and others are in acrylic on photographic paper, which produce an interesting effect that is between that of a drawing and a photo
