Malta Independent Sunday, 2 May 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

The works, which are displayed in various rooms, are more or less in chronological order and have several interesting features. Among these, one finds the Music Room where the paintings with music scores on them have been painstakingly researched and the actual music played in the hall. Another imposing hall is the ‘Altar Room’, where some of Caravaggio’s most famous altarpieces are on display. Local artists have been given the opportunity to paint and display works inspired by the exhibition and these will also be on sale to visitors. A well stocked bookshop on Caravaggio and art together with a bar staffed by students are another of the exhibition’s innovative features. Overall it is an enriching and comprehensive experience.

An impressive programme of cultural events are also planned for the two months that the exhibition remains open. Etnika, Gillian Zammit, Rosetta de Battista, Renzo Spiteri and several other local and international figures will perform. There will also be a series of talks by leading European Scholars at St John’s Co-cathedral, the Mdina Cathedral Museum and the Caraffa Stores.

Further information on these events is available on the Caravaggio Foundation website, www.caravaggio.com. The exhibition remains open till 30 June.
