The meeting took place on Monday while Mr Davis was on a short visit to Malta. He spoke to an MLP delegation made up of IT and Foreign Affairs spokesman Leo Brincat, MLP’s representative in the Council of Europe’s parliamentary assembly Joe Debono Grech and International Secretary Joe Mifsud.

They discussed the workings of the Council of Europe and Malta’s role in it. Joe Debono Grech spoke about the MLP’s priorities and its plans for the future with the Council of Europe.

Mr Brincat also spoke about the MLP’s suggestion to have separate parliamentary committees for Foreign Affairs and European Affairs. “But government did its own thing and appointed one committee for European and Foreign Affairs,” he said.

Meanwhile Joe Mifsud gave a detailed account of the MLP’s contribution at the recent European Socialists Party (PES) congress. He also mentioned the support of the UK’s Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott and European Minister Denis McShane in connection with the European Parliament election on 12 June.
