Only Two of 30 registration plates sold by auction

Malta Independent Wednesday, 5 May 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

The first batch of registration plates available for auction were issued to the public at the beginning of April and closed last Saturday.

In this time, only 007 and FERRAR1 received bids of Lm500 and over. The former was sold for Lm500 while the latter went for Lm510.

Now that bidding for the first batch has closed, the ADT has issued the second batch of personalised registration plates available for auction. This time, they have been chosen according to feedback received from the public who suggested the plate they would bid for.

The spokesman said the public also suggested PORNSTAR and PIMP but these were turned down by the committee vetting the suggestions. When asked why these had been turned down when SEX069 has been issued as a personalised number plate, the spokesman said this was issued “by mistake”.

When asked why the authority was so positive about the bidding for the second batch in view of the pretty bad outcome of the first one, the spokesman said the feedback the ADT was receiving from people indicated that people were interested in purchasing these plates.

Bidding may be effected using a Visa card or Mastercard via the website www.my-plate.com

Registration plates up for bidding until 29 May are: MRWHIPPY, DB 7, TA XMUN, DEEJAY, RED, DELICATA, JEANPAUL, FENECH, PIERRE66, MARIJA, JOHN, VERONIKA, PUTU, VOLARE, LAWYER, RX7, PHOENIX, STERLING, ALIEN, ANIMAL, HUGO, LUKE, TANYA, STYLE, 307CC, ETERNITY, X, MUM, STINGRAY and TOP GUN.
