Pupils from St Martin’s School were among those who took up the offer by the Caravaggio Foundation to spend a few hours in the unusual environment of the Caraffa Stores in Vittoriosa, where the exhibition Caravaggio – Una Mostra Impossible is being held.
Fr Marius Zerafa, a founding member of the Caravaggio Foundation, which was set up earlier this year, spoke to the third and fourth-formers about the life and work of Michelangelo Merisi, the 16th century artist known as Caravaggio. Prior to their visit, the pupils held discussions at their school about the themes and techniques used by the artist.
After touring the exhibition and discussing many of the pictures on display, the girls and boys spent some time making their own sketches and taking photographs. These will be on display during their school’s annual Art Week. More than 100 pupils from Chiswick House School, led by their art teachers, also visited the exhibition.
