AD Calls for improved communication between Attard’s local council and residents

Addressing the press conference, AD spokesman Ralph Cassar spoke about the need to improve communications between the local council and residents. Local councillors should give more space to residents and listen to what they have to say, he said.

“Attard local council should pressure authorities like Mepa, ADT and ministries to act upon the residents needs”.

Mr Cassar added: “Communication between Attard council and residents must be drastically improved. The residents need to be well informed about what’s going on and this will increase participation and transparency. The council magazine should be reintroduced so residents can be updated and informed about what is going on in their locality”.

The Green Party is also proposing the introduction of car-free zones and parking schemes. “Civic activity will be enhanced through the creation of car-free open spaces. This will help bring about more safety for the elderly, the disabled and families with children, residents, consumers, workers and retailers. Residential parking schemes are urgently needed. Through this scheme, residents will be given priority over non-residents as regards parking space”, said Mr Cassar.

Alternattiva Demokratika chairman Harry Vassallo said: “During house visits, AD’s local council candidates are finding a great deal of support for AD and the issues it stands for. Local councils are central in our vision of a participatory and grass roots democracy. Local councils can bring about real improvements in the daily life of residents. At the local level, AD can put its consistent commitment in environmental and social matters to the benefit of residents. The presence of AD councillors will also serve to decrease polarisation and increase cooperation between councillors of different political beliefs.”
