Blessing Of Europe

Malta Independent Friday, 7 May 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The DOI said Malta proposes to celebrate Europe Day by the Blessing of Europe.

Malta is the first ever multi-cultural hub of Christian Europe. Its location, size, recent history, rich heritage and culture makes Malta stand out from the newly acceding-countries as the ideal location for holding an inter-religious musical celebration for the purpose.

The event will be held at St John’s co-cathedral – which is the richest ornamental high baroque cathedral in the world and is a truly European Catholic church, with chapels for European langues such as Italy, Castille, Portugal, Provence, Germany and others.

The event should manifest the highest quality of performance, uniting Maltese and other European musicians, said the DOI.

As the event itself will be strictly by invitation, the EU Accession Celebrations Organising Committee president invites the general public to a dress rehearsal of the celebration which will be held at St John’s co-cathedral this Sunday at 2.30pm.

Complimentary tickets are available from the Tourism Ministry’s reception, from the Malta Arts and Culture Council offices, Casa Gaspe, Republic Street, Valletta and from the Gozo Ministry in Victoria.
