The tests will be carried out in order to establish the man’s identity and also the cause of death. However, the results of these tests will not be available before several days since the tests are complex.
The body was found drifting 200 nautical miles east of Malta by a United States registered vessel, the MV Cape Wrath. The body, even though still clothed, was in a bad state of decomposition. This meant that marks which pathologists usually look for in order to establish the cause of death were not present.
The tests are expected to throw some light on who the man is and how he had died and, eventually, how the man’s body ended up in the sea.
