A 24-year-old man from Balzan suffered grievous injuries after being struck by a car in Birkirkara on Thursday morning.

Police said they were informed of the incident at around 8:45am and were called to Mdina Road, where a person had been injured in a traffic accident.

Preliminary investigations found that the victim was hit by a Ford Fiesta driven by a 53-year-old man from Marsaskala. 

A medical team provided first aid at the scene before the injured man was taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital. He was later certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

Police investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
