Restoration Of Valletta’s oldest building nearly completed

Malta Independent Friday, 28 May 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

With the impending removal of the scaffolding, the Victory Church’s beautiful architecture will be revealed to complete the now pristine triangle comprised of the Auberge de Castille and the Church of Santa Katerina, both facades of which have been recently restored, in this oldest and most historic part of Valletta.

The Church of Our Lady of Victories, or the Victory Church as it is known, is said to contain the foundation stone of Valletta in its pediment and was dedicated to the Virgin by Grand Master la Valette after his victory over the Turkish fleet. The restoration of the church’s façade was made possible by the generous sponsorship of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
